Permalink Reply by norm campeau on November 2, 2012 at 7:24pm Unfortunately there are trophy chases out there......At national events we call them power parkers they get there as the gates open and stake out their spots for the weekend just to be seen....It seems like their whole self worth is in getting their trophy or a picture in some magazine......Then they load their car on an enclosed trailer and do it again at the next meet......My attitude is anything i build will be driven and have fun with it and frankly where i park ,who takes a picture of it or if i win a trophy is not very high on my list....But as you said Wayne it does give a new meaning.....Sadly there are people who would pay the price
Permalink Reply by Jeremy Spack on November 2, 2012 at 9:19pm I think you may be looking at it from the wrong angle. I myself help run the Vehicles for Veterans Car show and we have two prices. The 'premium' price that we offer for a better spot is merely a higher donation (where some people would actually like to give more) so that you can have your car on a red carpet or in the middle of the action. Being a fundraiser for a local Military Veteran based non-profit, why not give someone the chance to donate a little more and be appreciated for the willingness to help. Not everyone needs to have the same reason behind attending or participating in a show
I say so what, let them show their stuff, why let someone else's joy bother you
Permalink Reply by joseph david simpson on November 14, 2012 at 4:12pm I have heard this new "idea" for making money.
The best thing we can do is avoid these shows. I know I have been going to fewer shows. It's this marketing
idea or shows that are crooked; in that the host club gets all the trophys.
This whole show thing has gotten out of control. Either the cars are built by someone else or were bought.
Now pay alittle extra and a better spot. I wonder if there are too many retiree's with only one hobby--so
they are taking up to much space. I don't know.. Just look at how many folks show up at these shows and there
ages. I would bet 90% are over 40 maybe even 50.
I like the car hobby but alot of us need to find another hobby. So that we are not taking up too much room.
Another thing that galls me is the price to attend these shows. I know alot of younger guys cant afford the
admission 2 times a month. Just the wealthy old guys (and gals). Not good for the hobby.
I know that the charities are looking for donations. But we are supplying the cars to look at, how bout
offering free space for the younger guys.??
How bout prime space at a premuim fee and the young guys free. Seems fair to me.
