This week at the North / South Concourse of the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando is a rather unique event. The OCCC is hosting the 65th Annual National Business Aviation Association Meeting & Convention. One of the vendors is the Scottsdale Arizona Airport & it is linked, via Scottsdale, to the Barrett Jackson Auction organization. This is where the connection is made to "Something Very Different". Our own JR Goodman was asked by BJ to display his car at the Scottsdale Airport booth in recognition of Barrett Jackson's significant business presence in Scottsdale. I had an opportunity to attend the event today & spend time at the Scottsdale booth & also to see some of the most beautiful examples of aviation equipment on display in one place & I do mean one BIG place.
One extra treat that surprised both of us was meeting Mr. Bob Bondurant who drove for Carroll Shelby. Bob is a championship driver who drove for Carroll as part of his Shelby American team in the mid-60's & drove to seven victories in ten races that included beating Ferrari on it's home turf. Bob is now the founder of the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving near Phoenix, AZ. He's a car guy who talked to us about racing, had some great Carroll Shelby stories, took pictures with us & signed autographs. It was an honor meeting him.
Check out some of the pictures of JR's car at the Scottsdale booth & a few of the other fast machines on display. I'll have a slide show later today or tomorrow to highlight more of the show.
It is great to be in a different event. There was a 67 Nova and a Racing Corvette, as well as a Ferrari and Porche in attendance as well. The highlight was meeting Bob. He also trained James Garner for the movie Grand Prix on how to drive. Lots of fun and thanks for hanging out with me Mike.
