Firebird Formula Alternator replacement

Started by Jez E Bel. Last reply by Brian Parmenter Apr 15, 2011. 2 Replies

What ever happened to the days when you could change an alternator in about twenty-minutes? It took me several hours and many F Bombs to replace one on my 1998 Firebird Formula with an LS1.

Why not?

I am a MOPAR in the pic, but my older sibling a 1998 Pontiac Firebird Formula is in need of some TLC.  By that I mean a partial restoration like a new paint job, dashboard replacement, some mechanical work or maybe a new crate motor.  Does  anyone on this blog know of a shop that is a specialist in Firebirds?

Our Church, St. Pauls Presbyterian Church in Ocoee, is looking for  a Yellow Camaro to take part in a sermon series in August. Must be yellow. If anyone knows of one, please let me know. The car will just be parked in the Narthex of the church a few days and will not be moved or driven by anyone. Thanks. Peter

Did you try Rock Auto? There is a 5% discount easily found on the web. I buy most of my OEM parts from them.

Thanks Brian. That might just be the cause. I've also heard AF sensors, Throttle Body problems and faulty coil pack. It's headed to the garage. They've had it before with no luck, but at least now we have some good leads. Much appreciated. Peter!

Coil or wire going bad maybe? I'd take it somewhere to get it scanned for any codes.

My car recently started having 'problems' on start up. A dash light comes on that says 'Power Reduction'. Have NO idea what that means, but the engine runs rough and wants to shut down at that point. Can go only 5-10 MPH. Then it stops a fw days later and all is well for a while. Checked oil last time and was a bit low, added oil and problem went away. Haven't driven the car since. Today...same problem. Any ideas, suggestions?? Thanks. Peter

I am looking for gray-colored non-damaged dashboard and dashpad for my 1998 Firebird Formula. The ones currently on the car have recently developed cracks.
