I've been off line for a long time and it seems life gets in the way of living some times.
My current project is a 73 Duster that started it's life with a slant six, 904 trans and a 7.25 rear.
The car and I have been through a lot over the last 8 years. 4-speed swap, blow through turbo install just to name a few. Up until 8 months ago I was daily driving the car.
Daily driving an old car has it's ups and downs as everyone knows. About a year ago the Duster fell victim to a texting accident. The civic that hit me took most of the damage but it was the icing on the cake. The Duster had some volcanoes appearing around the base of the rear window, the paint was getting tired and the interior was showing it's daily use.
A great deal on a new driver fell into my lap and with some money in the budget it was time to redo the Duster.
This is where the story goes down hill.
The tired slant was leaking like crazy and in order to freshen it up I'd have to pull it, however, if I was going to pull it and spend some money, the slant wasn't going back in.
The plan was now to make it reliable, affordable, drivable, and no nonsense. Basically build it so my wife could drive it, lol
After some calls and posts on the forums I had a line on a low mile 99 360 magnum engine.
A few weeks on Craigslist and I had the 46RE ready to complete the drive line.
Now those of you Mopar folks know the 7.25 is pretty easy to grenade behind even the low HP slant...so in keeping with "the plan" ( see affordable and reliable ) I chose a Ford 8.8 LSD rear with 3.73 gears and disk brakes.
**Now I know there might be some uproar from the Mopar purists but for $150 out the door from the local pick and pull compared to upwards of $1000 for a Mopar 8.75 with drums, AND the fact that there are tons of high power mustangs running that rear, it was a no brainer. ( credit where credit is due ) *** Remember this was a /6 gold Duster, not a numbers matching GTS Dart or an E-body for Ma Mopar's sake ;) ***
Let the build begin!
